Waist Beads: Why do Ladies wear them?

Why do many ladies, especially those in Africa, or of African descent, wear waist beads? If I had a dollar every time someone asked me this question, I would be a very rich person. Having been in this waist beads business for the better part of 4 years, this is a question I get asked all the time.

Women wear them for a wide variety of reasons. Some of these reasons are cultural and others are personal. In some African cultures, they are worn as a symbol of womanhood, fertility and sexuality.

They can also be used as a tool for body positivity and self-expression. Some women wear waist beads as a reminder of their personal power, and to enhance their self-confidence. In some modern settings, they are worn for fashion or as a form of self-expression.

Waist beads originated from Africa and it’s so common, almost second nature, to many cultures here. In the next few paragraphs, we will talk about why many African women wear them.

The “Coca-Cola” Shape

I am certain that you have noticed a that a lot of women of African descent have accentuated waist and hips and this forms the famous “Coca-Cola” shape. As in, they have small waists that opens into wider hips and buttocks. The secret to this amazing shape is quite numerous in number and waist beads are one of them.

In many ethnic groups in Ghana, my home country, immediately a child is born, a set of beads is placed on the legs, neck and the waist.

With the exception of waist beads, which are done for only girls, beads are used to adorn both baby boys and girls. For boys, as they grow and the beads tear, they are never replaced but for girls, they are replaced, especially those around the waist.

These become an ornament she moves through life with. They wear them as babies and even as they transition into toddlers, teenagers and adolescents. This continues into marriage then into motherhood until they eventually become grandmothers and even then, they don’t stop until they take their last breath.

Through all these stages, the waist beads are a constant companion. She grows alongside them.

In some African homes, it is a taboo for a lady to not wear them. They are a valuable accessory that’s been passed down from generation to generation. It is widely rumored that it is through the constant wearing of waist beads that many African women get those well-defined waistlines and that famous “Coca-Cola” shape.

Waist beads as eye candy for Men

Most men love to see waist beads on their partners. Wearing them is one of the quickest ways to get your man all over you. For some men, seeing you in one alone, is enough to enchant and turn him on. Even the sounds they make during sex is so special that, you’ll be winning awards every night. I even hear that doggy and waist beads are a very powerful combination. Be careful not to tear them though.

Monitoring Weight

Do you have some weight that you want to lose, or do you want to maintain your current weight? How do you check your weight and change your habits without having to be on the scale every day? If these are your concerns, then waist beads are for you.

They are very effective in food portion control. Food is nice and we all struggle every now and then, to say “No” to that last bite. The beautiful thing about them is, they will slide up your stomach, get tight and eventually tear as you gain weight or eat more than you are supposed to.

On the flip side, you will feel them become loose and slide down as you lose weight. In my opinion, this is a pro way to gauge those kilos the scale refuses to acknowledge. You must definitely own one of these if you want to know whether you have gained or lost weight.

You can pick from our wide variety of waist beads by visiting our shop today.

These are some of the popular reasons why many women love wearing them. Why do you wear waist beads? Do share with us.
